2012 in Pictures - Wedding & Portrait Photography in Scotland

End of year and time for a quick look back at 2012. Here are 30 of my favourite pictures of the year. I hope you like them and for more please check out more at my website and Facebook page.

From all the Family Portraits that I did in the year the picture above is my favourite, I love the father + son connection.

Looking back on the year I noticed that dogs feature in many of my family portraits. I really enjoy taking pictures of pets and this is one of the best.

This is Capital FM & STV presenter Adele Cunningham, taken in the West End of Glasgow. Love the graffiti back-drop. I've revisited and used this backdrop quite a few times through the year.

Above and below, two sisters on a farm. Natural and familiar backgrounds help to make a really relaxed and enjoyable Family Portrait session.

This is from Anne & Martin's wedding in Linlithgow in January. Love the shared moment and joke between them as they walk out husband and wife.

Two pictures from the end of the year - Above when Santa and his elves visited Yorkhill Children's Hospital in Glasgow. This reindeer went into the wards to meet the patients who were unable to come out and join in, a very special moment. Below snow on the ground at Duntreath Castle in Loch Lomond. I've taken pictures throughout the year for the owners, this could their Christmas card for next year as we already have one for 2012!

Family portrait photography can happen anywhere. This is from a session who wanted me to capture their experience playing golf on The Old Course in St. Andrews.

I love taking pictures of babies, Olivia was amazing and luckily really enjoyed the experience.

An autumn session in November was gatecrashed by this character. It turns out he's a well known and very friendly fox in the West End of Glasgow.

I chose this one as it's a really simple portrait, enhanced further I think in black & white.

This picture is of The Lodge on Loch Lomond taken for their new hotel brochure. I took it from a small dingy bobbing up and down on the water!

Teenagers have featured quite a lot in family portraits this year. They often start out very nervous, having flashbacks of being made to sit still and smile in studios with bright lights. As you can see from the picture above my sessions are more relaxed and natural, providing much better results.

This is another wedding moment, it captures the reaction to an outrageous but very funny line from the best man during his speech.

It's not all work. Here's a personal picture taken of the star of Walt Disney World in Florida during a family holiday in May.

A Parklife Magazine winner won my competition in the magazine. Their prize a family portrait session and from it a large framed picture of the above. The boys didn't realise how well the dog was posing behind them!

Another image from a wedding, this one is of a flower girl spreading petals.

As part of my photography for Yorkhill Children's Foundation I had the task of creating a heart shape out of nursery children - challenging in the set-up, but the end result worked well and was widely published.

Never without a camera - this was taken from my back garden!

The group picture of ten cousins at a get together on a family farm. This was a superb session. Lots of fun.

The above is from a family photography session in Stirling.
Below a commercial picture set up and taken for The Love Loch Lomond tourist group.

The following three images are favourites from family photography sessions in 2012. They all use different natural outdoor environments.

Some more black & white examples. Above, the moment of putting on the wedding dress. Below from a family photography session in Dunblane.

Finishing up with some examples of PR & Profile pictures, above of the band Keane and below for Clyde 1 radio presenter Romeo.

Thank-you very much to everyone that I have photographed throughout 2012. Wishing you a very Happy Christmas and best wishes for 2013 :-)
